Anita Cantu Maldonado,of Castroville, formerly of Plainview, passed away on December 6, 2017 at her home at the age of 77 years. She was born July 23, 1940 in Robstown, Texas to Manuel and Elena Martinez Cantu.
On June 19, 1960, Anita married Robert Maldonado in Rule, Texas. In addition to caring for her home, her husband and their seven children, Anita was a deli department manager at Walmart. She worked at Walmart for twenty years before retiring. Anita and Robert lived most of their life in Plainview, Texas, where they raised their children. She was past president of Women’s Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Association in Plainview.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Elena Martinez Cantu; brothers, Manuel Cantu and Jesse Cantu; and sister, Rosita.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert Maldonado of Castroville; children and their spouses, Rosie and Fidel Blanco of Castroville, Adam Cavazos of Abilene, Claudia Perez of Mathis, Robert Maldonado, Jr. and Patsy of Plainview, Elisa Marie Salazar of San Antonio, Jesse and Lisa Maldonado of Castroville and Cindy Maldonado of Castroville; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Toni Cantu, Tony and Paula Cantu and Lupe Cantu; sisters and brother-in-law, Janie Gordon, Sally Gonzales, Terri and Jesse Barrientes, Eva Gloria Trevino, Gracie Cantu and Nora Bueno; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. The Funeral Service was Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10:00 am at Lytle Iglesia Bautista Calvario, 15253 Houston St., Lytle. Interment followed at Castroville Community Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Anita’s memory to Lytle Iglesia Bautista Calvario.
