Alvin John Gray, 91, of Devine, TX, was called Home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2020 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX with his son Mark Gray by his side. Alvin was born September 17, 1929 in Emeigh, PA to Cletus and Helen Gray. He was the fourth born of eleven children.
Alvin joined the US Army in 1946 and retired from the USAF in 1968. He was stationed in Germany, Japan and numerous state side bases. After Alvin retired from the military, he began a new career with TXDOT, he retired after 20 years of service. Alvin was always helping his community in different ways. He spent many years coaching and umpiring little league baseball and softball. Alvin loved all sports, but golf was his favorite.
Alvin married Dottie on April 19, 1954 and they settled in Natalia, TX in 1966 where they raised three sons John, Eddie, and Mark. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her passing in 2009. Alvin, at the young age of 80 was blessed to find love again with Gin Gray. They enjoyed 11 years of marriage together playing golf, traveling, dining, and dancing.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents Cletus and Helen Gray, first wife Dorothy “Dot” Young Gray, son John Gray, daughter-in-law Mary Gray, daughter-in-law Lela Manning, brothers and sisters-in-law Paul (Evie), Patrick (Josephine), and Eugene (Joy) Gray, sisters Helen Lawrence (Fred) and Donna Gray.
Alvin is survived by his wife Gin Gray, his sons and daughters-in-law Eddie (Kris), Mark (June) Gray, step-sons and daughters-in-law Sparky, Tracy (Cecilia), Bryan (Suzy) Manning, brothers and sisters-in-law Gerard (Liz) and David (Judy) Gray, sisters Joyce Gray Bacho and Catherine Gray Baker. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Alvin was a loving, kind and caring husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved the Catholic Church and loved God. We have no doubt he was received in Heaven by God and all who preceded him. He will forever be remembered and deeply missed.
