A short shot to left field was all that was needed to fuel the Poteet Aggies to a 1-0 victory over the Natalia Mustangs during their non-district battle last Friday, March 16th.
The two talented ball clubs were deadlocked in a scoreless contest through six complete innings of play in a true defensive battle that had seen only five total hits. With one out in the top of the 7th, Poteet’s Bennridez was able to single to left field to put only the 4th runner on base in the game for the Aggies. After watching Rodriguez fly out for out #2, the Mustangs needed only one out to escape.
Unfortunately, a stolen base by Bennridez was followed up with an error sent to left field by Murelm which allowed Bennridez to score and give Poteet the only run they would need to secure the 1-0 victory.
Natalia’s Matt Contreras had held his own well on the mound, as he pitched 7.0 innings, allowed two hits, with 0 walks allowing one run in the contest.
The Mustang offense accounted for four hits in the game. Those hits came thanks to Caden Fregia, Isaiah Gomez, AJ Felker and Jeremiah Castro.
Natalia did surrender a total of four defensive errors in the game compared to 0 by the Aggies.
