9/11 Festival postponed

It’s time for a quick look into what went on at Lytle PD last week. Officers handled 46 calls for service.
We had three property crimes reported last week. Two were vehicle burglaries (at the Best Western) that occurred at the same time. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 24 (about 1:00 AM) a pickup was broken into, and a Glock handgun was taken. Another vehicle was broken into and a backpack with misc. items valued at $200 was taken. Both vehicles were Ford F350s. The video appears to show a gold Chevrolet sedan, maybe a Chevy Cruze as our suspect’s vehicle. Currently, there are lots of options for securing a handgun in your vehicle, simple ways to prevent thefts like this. I would just say that I hope that gun doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, but I guess it already did.
The other property crime was a shoplifter at H.E.B. A female was cited and released after she attempted to leave the store with approx. $77 worth of items. What kind of stuff was taken you ask? A few examples from the list: A pumpkin face sweater, wart freezer, earache drops, a heating pad, and nail polish. This is just another confirmation that when it’s “stealing time”, everything is on the table.
Our one trip to jail was a “good one”. Ofc. Sergio Pena responded to a report of a wrong-way driver on the access road of IH-35. He was able to locate the vehicle. The driver was arrested for DWI. A much better ending than what we see and read about so often in the news.
At the last council meeting, the Lytle VFW approached the council and asked to postpone the 9/11 Festival that had been scheduled for Sept. 11. So, that means no fireworks for now. A new date has not been set; perhaps a Veterans’ Day event in November will take its place. My opinion doesn’t matter much in these scenarios but……the thought of an all-day festival in November, when it might be nice and cool, sounds great to me.
You can also plan to attend the homecoming parade on Saturday, Nov. 6. We have one every two years, and this is the year. This event is sponsored by the ex-students association and the city. My wife and I are both ex-students…I’m class of 1988 and she is 1999. Maybe I shouldn’t bring attention to this because I probably haven’t paid my dues.
