8th Grade Colts undefeated District champs

In their final game of the season, the 8th Grade Colts finished undefeated in district and the B team beat Hondo in its only district game. The Colts had an outstanding season losing only one game early in the season.
Gabe Esquibel got the game started with a 60 yard interception return for the first td of the night. Ethan Santos added the 2 point and the Colts took any early lead 8-0. The defense would get another turnover, this time a fumble recovery from Aaron Bonilla. This set up a 10 yard touchdown for Esquibel. Sammy Guardiola added the 2 points, 16-0.
Jonathan Weinkam was next to score from 20 yards out and Elijah Sanchez added the 2 points to move the lead to 24-0. Guardiola would find Esquibel one on one in the end zone for a 15 yard pass touchdown, Adrian Gutierrez scored the 2 points and the lead now would be 32-0.
Sanchez scored from 10 yards out and Luke Friesenhahn added the 2 points to make the score 42-0. Carrizo was able to return a kickoff and score later in the 2nd half to make the final score 42-14.
Esquibel had a heck of a night. Everyone was keying on Santos which opened up some plays for other people.
The line blocked great all year. There were big holes for all the running backs to run in. We had athletes all over the field and did a good job this year spreading the ball around. The toughest part of the year was trying to get all these great athletes the attention they deserved!!
We were glad to have Santos move in this year, he really made a good team great. Gabe was able to move to receiver to add to Razo and help Guardiola in the passing game. We had a big tough fullback in Weinkam, and would mix it up with the speedy Sanchez. Adrian Gutierrez was a great physical blocker and was another threat at running. Friesenhahn and Dominique Valerio added some good carries this year.
Our Defense shut down all the teams we played. Brandon Martinez was a great linebacker for us and all the guys on offense all helped out on defense. Aaron Bonilla did great at DE along with Gutierrez and Seth DeLeon. Luciano Rodriguez utilized his speed to help out on both sides of the ball, even scoring a rushing touchdown this year. And of course all the big guys up front played tough. Adrian Beltran, George Saenz, Jose Morales, Josiah Martinez, and Corey Dirck all played great. Roger Gutierrez was our center and his snaps were always on point.
It was a great and enjoyable year to coach this talented group. After losing to a high powered Cornerstone, this bunch won the last 8 games and are undefeated District Champs!! The A team finished 5-0 in district and let’s not forget about the B team, 1-0 in district with that victory coming over Hondo!
The Colts have started basketball season and will face Crystal City at home Thursday November 14th. The 8th grade Colts will be led by Coach Jacob Sanchez.
