In their second to last game of the season, the 8th Grade Colts came together as a team and stomped the Poteet Junior Aggies 50-8. Playing as a combined Maroon and Gold team, the Colts were able to get fresh players in where they were needed. “This is what we have been waiting on from this group. Everyone played to their best ability and as a unit we were unstoppable. The line blocked tough. We were able to get almost the whole team touches on offense and we were able to keep subbing in on defense and that kept the kids fresh and playing at a high level.”- Coach Lon Cozby
The Colts were able to score in every quarter. Marcus Rodriguez was first to find the end zone after a 65 yard drive with Aiden Zapata running in the 2 point conversion. Kicker Johnathon Gelinas created an on sides kick that was recovered by Jaieden Burford. Rodriguez would again find the end zone in the first quarter after a 35 yard run but Blain Davis was stopped short on the conversion. The second quarter was as exciting when Blain Davis ran in a touchdown from 59 yards out. Camden White caught a pass from Burford for the 2 point conversion. The half ended with a score of 22-0.
The Colts suffered a holding call and were called back but that did not dampen spirits because on the next play Burford threw an amazing pass to Ryan Connor who was wide open. Next time the Colts got the ball it ended with a quarterback keep play by Burford for a 27 yard touchdown. Poteet was finally able to break the Colt defense and get on the board with a touchdown and conversion. The quarter ended 28-8. “All the guys that ran the ball did awesome and also Jathon Razo had a great game. He had some key catches, fakes and a big run in the 3rd quarter.” Coach Cozby
Nate Ramirez made a huge tackle when he found an Aggie running back in the end zone for a safety and then ran the next kick off in from 52 yards. On the last touchdown of the game, Johnny Lascano scored from 10 yards out and Ramirez added the final 2 points on a conversion. The Colts ended the game 50-8.
Tomorrow night the Colts will have their last game of the season against Carrizo Springs at home. The games start at 4:30pm.
