8th Grade Colts beat Bandera

Sammy Guardiola, left, threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Santos on the first play of the game.

On September 26, the 8th Grade Colts face Bandera at home and won 58-25. Bandera did not have a B team so the Colts just played one game.
1st Quarter: On the Colts first play, Sammy Guardiola threw a 46 yard pass to Ethan Santos for a touchdown and Jonathan Weinkam ran in the conversion, 8-0. Elijah Sanchez intercepted the ball and then on the next drive Ethan Santos had a 28 yard run down to the 1, Adrian Gutierrez would run in the TD and Gabe Esquibel added the 2 point 16-0. The Colts held Bandera on 4 downs and next play Derrick Razo ran it 57 yards on a reverse for the touchdown and Ethan Santos added the 2 points, 24-0.
2nd Quarter: A 9 yard touchdown pass from Guardiola to Esquibel, they were unable to convert the extra points, 30-0. Bandera got on the board with a 61 yard run. The 2 point conversion was stuffed by Dominique Valerio, 30-6. The kickoff was returned 77 yards by Esquibel for a touchdown thanks to a great downfield block from Elijah Sanchez and Aaron Bonilla added the 2pt 38-6
3rd Quarter: 61 yard fumble recovery by Ethan Santos for touchdown, 2 point incomplete 44-6. Bandera put together a long drive capped by a 5 yard touchdown run and the extra point was good, 44-13. The kickoff was returned 78 yards this time by Esquibel for the touchdown and Brandon Martinez added the 2 point, 52-13. Bandera would return the kickoff 73 yards for the touchdown. Extra point attempt was no good, 52-19.
4th Quarter: Dominique Valerio had back to back rushes for 43 yards then for 6 yards and the touchdown. Luke Friesenhahn was stopped short on the 2 point, 58-19. Bandera 34 yard TD, extra point attempt was no good, 58-25. We would run the ball the rest of the quarter and run out the clock.
“The kids showed up ready to play just like the week before,” Coach Lon Cozby said. “The weather was better so we were able to throw the ball and that opened up the run game even more. Our special teams was a big factor, big blocks helped Esquibel get the edge and out run Bandera, twice! Looking forward to hosting Comfort and continuing to get better. Real proud of the effort thus far this year.”
The Colts will face Comfort on October 3 and then Hondo October 19.
