8th grade Colts battle Javelinas

Devine’s 8th grade Colts dropped their first game of 2021 to the visiting Crystal City Javelinas last Thursday at the DSAC. The Colts cold shooting put them in the hole early, trailing 18-5 after the first quarter. Although Crystal City did not keep up their torrid pace, Devine simply could not put the ball in the basket with enough consistency to make it a game.
Carter Faubel and Wero Torres each scored eight points while Tyler Pike was next in line with four. Jaysen Ramirez chipped in three points, Logan Davis, Matthew Gomez, and Jacob Rodriguez each had two points, and Tony Saldivar sank a free throw for his lone point.
“We played hard but missed too many close shots and gave up too many easy layups,” said Coach Scott Taylor. “The players continue to work hard and are improving each week.”
