The Maroon Fillys hosted the Crystal City Junior High Mavericks this past Monday evening. The two met in Crystal City in the first game of the season where the Fillys were victorious.
As the evening began, the Fillys dominated Crystal City winning the first set 25-8. Strong serving by Skylar Blanton and YaYa Rodriguez gave the Fillys a definite advantage in set one. Crystal City refused to go away lightly and jumped out to an early lead in set two. That lead ended up costing the Fillys the set 22-25. In the 3rd set, the Fillys dominated the entire time, winning 15-5.
“This is a great little team, full of athletic potential. They have learned so much so quickly. People see them and think they have played for years together. It’s exciting to know that they are just getting started,” said Coach Oropeza.
Stat Highlights: Blanton 13 points off serves, 2 kills. Maddie DuBose 3 kills. Oakley Malone 10 points off serves, 2 assists. Rodriguez 14 points off serves, 1 assist.
The Fillys will play in Hondo on October 14th and at home against Pearsall on October 21st.
