7th Grade Lady Mustangs beat Dilley, claim 2nd in tournament

The girls took a big win last night against Dilley. We started out playing really slow, but finished really strong to get the win. They were challenged last night with a tough point guard that was running right through them. They had to become disciplined on defense to stop her and luckily did by the 4th quarter. They also started playing smarter offense and pressing correctly on defense in the end which picked up 12 points in the 4th quarter. I am proud of the fight in the end to pull out the win. The final score was 18-13.

In the Natalia Junior High Tournament, the 7th grade team took the win against Pearsall to put them into the Championship game Saturday. They played really well and ran the offense correctly which put up a lot of points. They were aggressive on defense moving their feet and stopping the ball.

The girls landed in the Championship game to find a really talented Carrizo team. The girls were not able to successfully break the press when needed. Moving forward, they need to learn to pass fast and move down the court quickly. We also struggled to be where we needed to be during crucial times of the game. Moving forward, I hope the girls learned to be where they need to be on offense and slow down and run the plays. I am very proud of the girls getting 2nd place and more importantly, learning a lot from this talented team.

We will play again tomorrow night in Lytle and then our last game will be at home against Jourdanton.
