7th Colts open district 1-0 with 6-0 win at Carrizo Springs

One touchdown is all the 7th grade football Colts needed to secure their district-opening, 6-0 victory in Carrizo Springs last Thursday afternoon. Devine’s six-points came on a Christian Beaver to Francisco Rios 52-yard pass in the second quarter. The Colts are 1-0 in district with a game against rival Hondo this Thursday.
“We traveled down to Carrizo Springs Thursday with a plan to get our first win of the year and to open up district 1-0. Well the plan went very well,” said Coach Jacob Sanchez. “The boys were ready to play as soon as they stepped onto the field.”
It is obvious from the final score that the Colt defense was more than up to the task, pitching a shutout at the Wildcat’s home field.
“Overall we played the best game we have played so far,” Sanchez continued. “Cole Reyes had a great game defensively keeping outside contain and making their ball carries have to cut back in where our defense was waiting for them. Jett Toner was very aggressive on defense as well.”
The Colt offense was able to string together a couple of nice drives together throughout the ballgame.
“Our lineman blocked very well. Caleb Herrera and Becker Byrd opened up lanes for our running backs to go through. Alejandro Ramirez and Cole both ran the ball very well. We had another chance to score from the goal line but unfortunately we fumbled the ball,” stated Sanchez regarding his offensive unit.
Getting a victory to open district, plus the fact that Hondo is up next should make any Colt fan and player excited.
Sanchez finished saying, “The boys are getting more confident and it’s showing on the football field. We play Hondo this coming week in Hondo and we would like any support we can get from the fans. As everyone should know they are our rivals and we are going over there to win big.”
