7th Colts begin DMS football season; lose nail-biter to Navarro 8-0

The Devine 7th grade Colts kicked off their 2021 season with formidable foe Navarro. The Colts put up a terrific fight before surrendering a Panther touchdown late in the ballgame. Devine lost 8-0 but looks to rebound this week against Pleasanton.
“Last week we played a tough opponent in the Navarro Panthers,” said Coach Jacob Sanchez. “Even though we lost 8-0 in the last seconds of the game the kids played tough but unfortunately we could not pull out the victory.”
According to Sanchez, Devine committed “a few penalties that gave Navarro life on offense but our athletes were resilient and still held them all game until the last minute where Navarro threw a 30-yard pass to score the only touchdown of the game.”
The Colts will improve with more practices under their belt and will clean up their penalty flag tendencies.
“Overall, I believe we played well and just made some costly penalties on both offense and defense. Francisco Rios had a 90-yard scoring run that was called back due to a false start penalty. Rowdy Esparza had a great game running the ball also. For us to hold a team like Navarro to only 8 points speaks volumes on how well our kids played. Come out to support us this week as we play the Pleasanton Eagles in Pleasanton,” was Sanchez’s last suggestion to Devine Colt fans.
