Lytle, TX – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $4,996,436 in federal funding for the Camino Real Community Services Center to support the increase and strengthening of treatments for serious mental illnesses, serious emotional disturbances, and co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. The project will build on the existing services and expand to meet the need and restore the delivery of clinical services that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Earlier this year, I secured $4,000,000 through the Department of Health & Human Service’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) grant program. Now, I am able to announce almost $5 million for the Camino Real Community Services Center,” said Congressman Cuellar. “Over the course of 2 years, 500 unduplicated patients will be serviced through this program. That is 1,000 individuals directly impacted from these federal funds. The COVID-19 pandemic brought on unimaginable mental hardships. That is why this federal money is so important. We must help these individuals that are struggling with quality medical care services.”
The first goal of this grant will be to increase and enhance access to evidence-based mental health services for residents experiencing Severe Mental Health Issues (SMI) and/or Co-Occurring Disorders (COD). The second goal will be to deliver evidence-based mental services to pre-pandemic levels. This will be done by utilizing:
Local Crisis Screenings/Assessments.
Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT) Services.
Crisis Residential Unit (CRU) Services to establish access mechanisms for children and adults.
