The Natalia Lady Mustangs (17-10-1) saw their season come to an end in Marion last weekend vs. the 28-3A Champion Columbus Lady Cardinals. Columbus defeated the girls in blue 16-2 Thursday, April 29th before downing Natalia 7-0 on Saturday afternoon following a rain delay.
Game 1-Not much went right for the girls in blue in their opening game vs. Columbus. The Lady Cardinals scored four runs in their opening at bat and never looked back defeating Natalia 16-2 in five innings played.
The Lady Cards out-hit Natalia 12-3 as both teams finished with an error a piece on defense.
Freshman Kody Blanquiz took the loss, as she allowed twelve hits, walked four, struck out three and allowed 16-runs, only three of which were earned.
Blanquiz, Taty Alvarado and Trista Vera accounted for the three hits by Natalia.
Game 2- The Natalia Lady Mustangs truly improved in all aspects of the game on Saturday in game two. Natalia’s Marina Billalobos took the mound for the girls in blue, as she pitched 6.0. She allowed 14 hits, walked one, struck out three and allowed seven runs, only four of which were earned.
Natalia battled their tails off, as they were able to hold Columbus scoreless through the first three innings.
Columbus scored their first run in the 4th, thanks to a dropped third strike, a stolen base and a Natalia error.
The Lady Cards took over in the 5th, as they scored six big runs to take control 7-0 and never look back.
Columbus finished out-hitting Natalia 14-5 as the Natalia defense also surrendered two errors.
Hits- Blanquiz led the offense with two hits, as KK Lara, Trina Vera and Alvarado pitched in hits for the offense.
Next week we will take a look back on the season and get comments from Coach Tara Cortinas as well as look ahead to next year. Columbus advanced to battle Comfort in the Area Playoffs. 27-3A teams Lytle and Poth also lost in Bi-District as the 27-3A Champion Cotulla Cowgirls were victors in their Bi-District game vs. Yoakum (12-5).
