“Two Bits, Four Bits, Six Bits, a Dollar! All for Devine, Stand Up & Holler!” There is nothing like a familiar cheer like “Two Bits” to bring you to your feet and to take you back to your schooldays in Devine with all the school spirit of game days!
For many decades the DHS Cheerleaders led this cheer with the DHS Pep Squad who served their school as the traditional Spirit Leaders for their fellow classmates & community! They were a well-prepared team who displayed school unity and pride each Friday night at Warhorse Stadium in support of their beloved Warhorse team. Each cheer was choreographed, and practiced weekly, to be prepared for the pep rallies and games. They dressed in uniform and worked as a team for all games, and you never had to worry about any lack of cheering at the games! They were loud & proud and led the entire homestands for each cheer!
The DHS Cheerleaders who led the Pep Squad in cheering, in those years, had to be juniors or seniors and there were only five of them! That is a big change from nowadays, but there were only about 380 students in the high school back in 1970. The bigger cheerleader squads of today are not just juniors or seniors, and they have a lot more students to lead!
