The Devine Warhorses shut out the Pearsall Mavericks 4-0 and clinched the district title on Tuesday, April 18th. District AAAA teams in the playoffs are Devine, Pearsall, Lytle and Crystal City. Devine is 7-0 in district play (16-6 season play) with one game left in district on press night Tuesday, April 25 against Lytle. “The playoff picture is still undecided. We won’t know until Tuesday night who we will be paired with” said Coach George Villa.
There will be a warm up game against Marion on Friday, April 28th at 7pm.
Two pitchers teamed up to take down the Mavericks. Connor Schmidt earned the win with Isaac Solis taking the save. “Schmidt did a great job starting on the mound for us and Solis did a good job coming in relief and shutting it down” said Coach Villa.
Devine jumped out with an early lead as Kyler Brown singled in the 2nd inning bringing in two runs. Jack Zimmerle scored in the 3rd inning on a single to left field from Connor Schmidt, bringing the Warhorses to a 3-0 lead.
Isaac Solis scored the final run in the 6th inning scoring on a passed ball in play.
“We hit the ball decent, ending up with 9 hits. The big hit of the night came from Brown when he delivered a two out single that drove in two runs in the bottom of the 2nd” said Coach Villa.
Defensively the Warhorses played solid ball with only one error late in the game.

The Warhorses fell behind and couldn’t recover in a 13-2 loss to Boerne last Friday, April 21st. Devine had 8 hits. Long, Solis and Ricord each collected multiple hits. Ricord took the loss for Devine.
