The Varsity Warhorses bounced back from a tough loss to Bandera with a 10-1 win over Lytle last Friday, April 7.
Leadoff hitter Dillon Ricord walked, stole second and third, and scored on an error. Newt Crouch and Jack Zimmerle also drew walks, Crouch scored on Richie Long’s groundout to second, and Corben Boggs doubled to drive in Zimmerle for a quick 3-0 lead.
Dalton Kramer led off the top of the 2nd inning by reaching on an error, advanced to second on Kyler Brown’s groundout, stole third, and scored on Ricord’s sac fly to left field. Crouch singled, stole second and third, and scored on Zimmerle’s single to left to put the Warhorses up 5-0.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Connor Schmidt hit a line drive single to right field, then scored on Kramer’s double to left.
Lytle’s sole run of the game came in the bottom of the 3rd inning, thanks mostly to Warhorse miscues. The leadoff batter drew a walk, stole second, took third on an error, and then scored on another error to cut the lead to 6-1.
Devine immediately got the run back. Ricord was hit by a pitch to start the top of the 4th inning and advanced to third on Crouch’s single to right field before scoring on Zimmerle’s sac fly to center.
The Warhorses final runs came in the top of the 6th inning. Ricord drew a walk, stole second and third, and scored on an error that allowed Crouch to reach base. Zimmerle singled, stole second, and advanced to third on Long’s sac fly to right that drove in Crouch. Boggs walked, and Zimmerle stole home for a 10-1 lead.
Devine held Lytle scoreless the rest of the way to improve to 12-5 overall.
The Warhorses had eight hits, eight walks, committed three errors, and left six runners on base.
Ricord pitched a complete game, giving up just three hits and one walk and recording a whopping 13 strikeouts.

The Warhorses faced Carrizo Springs on press night, and will head to Crystal City on Thursday, April 13 before hosting Pearsall on Tuesday, April 18. All games are scheduled for 7:00 pm.
