Walter Ray Schott

Walter Ray Schott, of La Coste, passed away in San Antonio on July 21, 2021 at the age of 60. He was born August 19, 1960 in Fort Huachuca, Arizona to Joseph David Schott and Jerry Jane Kipps Schott.
On March 19, 1983, Walter married Sheila Lee Haass at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. They were blessed with thirty-eight years of marriage, two daughters and three grandsons.
Walter was the founder and owner of Schott’s Custom Homes. His attention to detail on the homes he built was well known and made him a much sought-after home builder. His favorite project was building a custom tree house for his oldest grandson, Gage.
He was an avid hunter and loved going to the coast to go fishing. Spending time with his family was a priority, especially being “Pappy” to his precious grandsons, sharing fun times and making memories with them.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Schott of La Coste; daughters and son-in-law, Jessica and Nathan Lessing of La Coste, and Katie Schott of Boerne; grandsons, Gage, Crew and Jax Lessing; mother, Jerry Schott of Virginia; brothers, David Wayne Schott of Denver, North Carolina and Wallace Schott of Fredericksburg, Virginia; sister, Kathleen DiCola (William) Fredericksburg, Virginia; mother-in-law, Shirley Haass of Devine; in-laws, Marsha Haass of Devine, Karla Bernhard (Sid) of Boerne, David Haass, Jr.(Billy Smith) of Devine; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Walter was preceded in death by his father, Brigadier General Joseph Schott, (U.S. Army, retired); and his father-in-law, David Haass, Sr.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. (The family will not be present for the visitation.) Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville, Texas. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Devine, Texas.
Memorials may be made in Walter’s memory to the charity of your choice.
