Two killed in rollover caused by “tire issue”, officials believe

A tragic double fatality claimed two lives this past July 28 around 11:38 am just 1 mile south of Devine. Three were ejected from the vehicle on I-35.

A report from DPS states, “A 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Fred Anthony Stull, 42, of Granger was traveling north on IH-35. The vehicle may have experienced a tire issue which caused the driver to lose control.”
“The truck veered across the road and rolled over, ejecting the driver and two other occupants who were seated in the rear passenger area. None were wearing safety belts. The driver and the front passenger were taken to University Hospital for treatment. Shane Vernon Stull, 45, of Taylor was pronounced dead on the scene. Rita Faye Cortinas, 65, of Granger was also pronounced dead.”
“The crash is currently under investigation and all contributing factors are not yet known. DPS reminds drivers to obey traffic control devices, don’t exceed the speed limit, minimize distractions and always wear your safety belt. The crash report will be available at Texas.gov for a fee upon completion.”
