Our call volume fell this past week to only 41 calls for service. It sure wasn’t because things were slow in town; I would say people were maybe too busy to call the police and report stuff. The roads were packed as people were either traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday or hitting our local businesses for needed items and some good deals. Officers conducted 79 traffic stops and issued 56 citations, 23 stops resulted in the driver being given a warning.
Officers made two arrests this past week. In the early morning hours of Monday Nov. 25, Officer Pena conducted a traffic stop and found that the driver had an active narcotics warrant out of Bexar Co. During her arrest Captain Reyes located narcotics in her vehicle so she picked up a felony charge. She was transported to the county jail in Jourdanton. On Tuesday, Nov. 26, Ofc. Lopez conducted a traffic stop on Main St. and found the driver to have an active theft warrant out of Wilson Co. He was transported to Jourdanton. After that, all the wanted people stayed out of town for the rest of the week in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Could you believe we only had one reported property crime? I am sure there were more but maybe people didn’t want to report something and interfere with their turkey dinner. That crime occurred at Bealls on Thanksgiving Day, around 6 PM a fellow ran out of the store with a bag of unknown items. I guess he figured that after eating all day nobody would have the energy to chase him. He fled into the parking lot and was picked up by a small black car.
The Hayride and Holiday Market last Saturday was a major success! We had over 1,800 people that signed up and either paid a $1 or donated a canned good. That’s a lot of “hayriders”, not to mention probably another couple hundred people that included the drivers and passengers in the trucks as well as volunteers. It wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for all those that volunteered their trucks and trailers, the city public works crew, the National Honor Society, Ms. Campa and her special team of volunteers as well as the Lytle VFW. The holiday market was also a huge success, lots of activity at the vendor’s tables and Santa stayed busy with photos. We even had a food truck! In my opinion it was a really nice event, I’ll give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Christmas is only 3 weeks away! Everybody will be busier than usual and crooks will take advantage of the situation if you let them. Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle, but if you do then at least try to hide them. If you see something that looks “fishy” give us a call, let us check it out. Our officers will be making lots of stops at the various businesses and conducting foot patrols and checking in with employees. I have assigned myself to H.E.B. Plus. I’m waiting on the schedule of when they will have the “sample stations” operating so I can coordinate my foot patrols.
