Lytle Police activity for the past week included, but was not limited to, responding to 39 calls for service and conducting 66 traffic stops. Of the 66 stops, 57 resulted in citations and 9 were warnings. The “top speeder” of the week was “clocked” by Sgt. G. Hanson speeding 73 mph in a 35-mph zone on Railroad St. That’s 38 mph over the limit! That reminds me of the old Cannonball Run movie from 1981, it was packed full of stars. Sadly, most of them have passed on. Fair warning, if you look up the theme song and listen to it, it may get stuck in your head. Now on to something of more substance.
Only two property crimes were reported to us last week. #1 -H.E.B. Plus reported that an unknown female shoplifted some unknown items. That is a lot of unknowns. #2 – A resident of N. Benton reported scratches on the rear hatch of her vehicle.
Your L.P.D. officers made four arrests last week. #1 – Officers (Diaz & Garcia) responded to Stripes for a report of a female attempting to jump out of a vehicle. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old female for proving false/fictitious identifying information. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 – Officers (A. Lopez & Cortez) responded to Mesquite St. for a report of damage done to a vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the damage didn’t occur as was reported. The complainant, a 39-year-old male, was arrested for filing a false police report. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #3 – A traffic stop on N. Somerset @ Main St. (Cortez & A. Lopez) resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old female for D.W.I. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #4 – A traffic stop on Main St. (Dear & Hanson) for an expired M.V.R. resulted in the arrest of a 42-year-old male for felony possession of a controlled substance (meth). He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail.
We have added a Reserve Officer to our force; Samantha Mendez is a recent graduate of the San Antonio College Law Enforcement Academy. If you see her patrolling around, be sure and say hello. She will be in our field training program for a while, and if all goes well, she will move into a full-time position in the future.
A familiar face is returning to our team, Frank Reyes will be filling the police officer position vacated by Sergio Pena (who went to Round Rock P.D.). Frank retired from our department about 18 months ago and has been serving as a Deputy Sheriff / Bailiff for Atascosa Co. When Frank retired, he had served with us for over 24 years! After all that time, I guess, he was so accustomed to the bizarre schedules I created he just couldn’t adapt to working M-F, 8-5, with all the weekends and holidays off.
Our public schools will be starting soon, please pay attention when traveling in and around our schools. We have new sidewalks too! Though the project isn’t complete, I will kindly ask that you not park on our sidewalks! It took us a long time to get them, and we don’t want to see them all busted up.
