Tartly Robert Ferguson Jr. went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at the age of 89, at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He was born January 3rd, 1936, to Robert and Elda Dubose Ferguson in Caldwell county, Texas. He attended Lockhart High School, and then enlisted in the U.S Army, March 28th, 1955. While there Robert witnessed several atom bomb detonation tests at Yucca Flats, Nevada which earned him the atomic medal award and his 100% service-connected disability.
He left the Army in 1958 and transferred to the Army Reserves where he stayed until March 27th, 1963. Everyone called him Junior including his wife of 51 years, Marie. Junior worked for a while at Gary Aircraft, Nelson Rd San Antonio. He also did some oil field work around Somerset Texas. His final job was a Test Fleet Driver in D’Hanis, Texas. Junior loved farming and growing vegetables which he sold door to door to a lot of grateful customers.
He had a great sense of humor and usually said whatever came to mind, not always what others wanted to hear. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Marie Ferguson and others close to him. He is also survived by his brother, John Ferguson of Greer, S.C., sister-in-law Betty Margaret Ferguson of Rockdale, Texas and Brother-in-law Jim Smith of San Antonio, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elda Ferguson, as well as his siblings Viola Lipscomb, Joe Ferguson, Leo Ferguson, Melba Smith, and Willard Ferguson.
