Santiago “Chago” Martinez of La Coste, Texas passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019.
Santiago Martinez was born in Jiménez, Coahuila, Mexico to Simon and Paula Martinez on July 20, 1933. As a young man, he worked as a ranch/farm hand in Brackettville, Texas under the Brazero program where he obtained his work visa. He married Alejandra Maldonado on January 6, 1962 in Jiménez, Coahuila. Together, Santiago and Alejandra made their life raising four boys with Santiago working in ranching / farming until joining the Sisters of Divine Providence at Moye Formation Center in Castroville, Texas. Santiago spent twenty-seven years performing his maintenance and landscaping duties until retirement in 1997.
Santiago is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Alejandra Martinez; sons, Miguel (Wendi) Martinez, Frank (Michelle) Martinez, and Santi (Michelle) Martinez; granddaughters, Misty Martinez, Alexandria Martinez, Zoe Martinez and Lexie Martinez; siblings, Bernardo Martinez, Melchora Esquivel and Umberto Martinez and many nieces and nephews.
Santiago was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Paula Martinez; his eldest son, Santiago Martinez, Jr. and siblings, Beatrice Sanchez and Consuelo Celedon.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection will be Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville, with Father Jimmie Drennon of St. Mary Margaret Church officiating. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Miguel Martinez, Frank Martinez, Santi Martinez, Arnulfo Celedon, Benjamin Martinez and Amador Maldonado, Jr.
The family of Santiago would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who tended to Santiago and all the family and friends for their loving support and prayers.
