San Antonio Food Bank Distribution by VFW Post 3966 has Record Distribution

The San Antonio Food Bank sent 22 pallets of food non-perishable goods the were distributed in Devine Monday, August 5th.

The monthly San Antonio Food Bank distribution by Devine VFW Post 3966 had a record distribution on August 5, 2024. San Antonio Food Bank notified the Post last week that they had an additional 10 pallets of non-perishable goods for distribution. The 22 pallets of food and non-perishables arrived in a full semi-trailer truck. With nearly twice as many pallets to unload, the distribution started later than usual at about 9:30 am. With 37 volunteers helping, the record distribution was still completed by 11:20. One hundred and sixty-six (166) families were served.

Special recognition goes out to the volunteers who made the distribution happen. It would not have been possible to distribute the 21,593 pounds of goods to families without them. They tolerated the over 90-degree heat, humidity, and full sun to deliver the items to our neighbors who came for support. Thank you to everyone who helped to support our community.
If you know someone who needs food assistance, have them look up the San Antonio Food Bank online. They can register for food there. Sign up under “Freshtrak”. The website will also list other pop-ups in the area, such as the Devine First Baptist Church pop-up that is on every fourth Monday. If they cannot register online, get in the food line and we can register them on site. The line usually starts before 7:00 am and starts at the VFW parking lot entrance and goes from W. College Ave. to S. Upson to Zigzag. Our next Distribution will be on Monday, July 1, 2024.
Our distributions are normally on the first Monday of the month, however, our next distribution will be on September 9, 2024 due to Labor Day. If you would like to volunteer to help, show up at 8:00 am in the VFW parking lot at 211 W. College Ave, Devine (next to the US Post Office). We have tacos, doughnuts and water for volunteers. Volunteers who want credit for community service should bring their paperwork for signature. A distribution normally takes 2-1/2 to 3 hours.

A big thank you to the volunteers that make the food distribution happen each month.
