Richard Dean Moore, 61, of Devine, Texas passed away Monday, May 7th, 2018, after a long and difficult battle with cancer.
In his last few years, Richard participated in multiple cancer trials to advance research efforts towards finding better treatments for cancer patients.
He is survived by his daughter Fallon Roberts (Tim), daughter Kayla Moore and granddaughter Trinity, son Lance Moore, sisters Joanne Walsh and Joy Burell (Pat), brothers Denny Moore (Dalees), Jerry Moore (Mary), and Larry Moore(Paula) all residing in Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews.
His father, Richard Marvin Moore, and mother, Edith, precede him in death. Richard worked in construction for many years and then served the State of Texas as a Correctional Officer until his retirement in 2013 with over 20 years of service. Many friends and family gathered to celebrate his retirement and reminisced over decades of fond memories.
His family and friends will remember him for his love of sports, fishing, deer hunting, collecting Native American artifacts, and for his sarcastic sense of humor. He was always keen to teach those that showed interest in the hobbies that he loved, and he spent many years coaching each of his children in softball and baseball. He touched many young lives during his coaching and always instilled a hard work ethic in his players. Richard spent the last few years living in the family lake home in Somerville, Texas where the majority of the Moore family spent endless summers and vacations together. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine, Texasat 10am.
There will be no visitation prior to the service at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine, Texas.
It was Richard’s request that in lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Old Iron Trail Ride, which benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas. Memorials may be mailed to: Old Iron Trail Ride, c/o Douglas Haass, 6035 St. Hwy 173 N, Devine, Texas 78016.
