Reba Alene Hammond Herber passed away on March 27, 2017in Hondo at the age of 97 years. Reba was born February 5, 1920 in Olney, TX. She was born to Robert Norrison Hammond and Linnie Wilborn Hammond. Reba graduated from Olney High School. On March 11, 1939 Reba married Emmert Herber in Natalia. Together they raised three children and were married for 36 years at the time of Emmert’s death in 1975. Reba kept busy taking care of her family and home. She also worked as a cook for Natalia ISD for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emmert; son-in-law, Carlos Kirkpatrick; brothers, Wilborn Odell Hammond and H.D. Hammond; sister, Ivaleeta Brazell.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Kirkpatrick of Huntsville, AL and Julia (Ross) Burris of Sabinal; son, Carl Robert (Margaret) Herber of Denton; grandchildren, Tim (Jeri) Kirkpatrick, Anthony Paul Kirkpatrick, Sr., Rhonda Cothren, Michael (Cindy) Burris, Glenda Haynes, Randy (Nevi) Burris, Stephanie (Tyson) Cutrer, Monica (Travis) Jones and Brian (Amanda) Herber; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Brazell of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Nell Hammond as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Devine at 12:30 pm. Memorials may be made in Reba’s memory to the charity of your choice.
