Pirates battle Aggies, take on Randoph next

The Lytle Pirates took on the Poteet Aggies last Friday in the second game of District Play. As coach notes, the Pirates continue to see improvement in all three phases of the game.
Among the highlights of the game, Junior QB/RB/LB Deven Caldera, threw a great touchdown pass to Senior RB/LB Emanuel Garcia in the 2nd quarter.
“After a heavy dose of running the football, Junior RB Deven Caldera’s run action baited the defense to fit forward, leaving Senior fullback Emanuel Garcia wide open over the middle for a 21-yard touchdown pass,” said Coach Adrian Trevino.
There were new faces on the field for the Pirates Friday night as well.
“Junior OL/DL Damien Myers and Sophomore QB/DB Andrew Gonzales made their Varsity debuts. On Special Teams, Senior K/P Jason Vega continues to impress in the kicking game,” Coach Trevino said.
Defensively, Junior RB/DB Albert Aguilar led the Pirates with 13 total tackles (12 solos, 1 assist) and a spectacular interception, his first of the season.
“Towards the end the 2nd quarter, Aguilar did a great job of reading the QB’s intent and came across from the opposite side of the field to pick off the pass and returned it 24 yards,” Coach Trevino said.
Other standouts include Senior LB Elias Hernandez (3 solo tackles, 3 assists), Senior LB Joshua Del Toro (4 solos, 2 assists) and Sophomore LB/RB Amadeus Trejo-Perez (4 solos, 1 assist).
The final score was Poteet 50, Lytle 7, but the Pirates continue to push forward and improve week to week.
“Our team continues to work hard, improve on the fundamentals, and gain experience,” Coach Trevino adds.
The Pirates will play at Randolph this on Friday, October 8th. Go Pirates!
