Persyn named MVISD Elementary Teacher of the Year

Amber Persyn was named Medina Valley ISD’s Texas Association of School Administrators Elementary Teacher of the Year in a surprise ceremony on May 20.

Persyn is a resource teacher in Lacoste Elementary’s Special Education department and has been teaching for 27 years. She is now up for Region 20’s Teacher of the Year award.

“Mrs. Persyn is an amazing teacher, as are all of the teachers in this district,” MVISD Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Rohrbach said. “We’re really honored to have her representing our teachers at the elementary level.”

LaCoste Elementary Principal Elizabeth Vera also sung Persyn’s praises.

“She is an amazing teacher,” Vera said. “She is so kind and thoughtful with all the students and families. We are so blessed that she is part of our LaCoste family.”

A tearful Persyn was overwhelmed by the recognition.

“I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was a kindergartner myself,” Persyn said. “And to finish my career here in LaCoste over the next few years, where I started as an elementary student a lifetime ago, is an honor.”
