Pamela Kay Patteson, of Devine, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 73, surrounded by her loving family.
Pamela and her devoted husband of 56 years, Ronnie Patteson, built a beautiful life together in Devine, Texas, where they raised their two children. To anyone who met her, Pamela’s warmth, kindness, and generosity were immediately evident. She and Ronnie shared many adventures on their farm, where they raised show pigs, chickens, and tended to their plum and peach orchards. Not only was she a food service director, she was partners with Ron in their family construction business. Pamela’s home was always open to family, friends, and anyone in need of a welcoming place. She was known for her incredible cooking, with frequent requests for her famous carne guisada, enchiladas, potato salad, and banana pudding. And if you were really special to her she would provide you with your own big dish of potato salad to take home.
An avid outdoorswoman, Pamela loved hunting, fishing, tending her garden, and taking trips to the casino with Ronnie. She was fiercely dedicated to her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, earning her the title of “Grandma Pam” or “Aunt Pam” to her nieces, nephews and even her grandchildren’s friends. Pamela created countless cherished memories for her family and friends. It wasn’t unusual for her to have a house full of children, whom she encouraged to play outside and use their imaginations. She taught them how to shuck peas and corn, how to sew, how to can produce from the garden, and how to care for a home and family. She was also the peacemaker, likely breaking up a few sibling and cousin squabbles along the way.
Pamela was the heart of many family gatherings, especially during Easter, when she would host the most memorable egg hunts by the creek or in the field. Always encouraging the family to be together. Everyone joked that we could easily say something sweet or bring up a memory and she would immediately shed a tear. She was beyond proud of the life she built. After retiring from 39 dedicated years with the Devine ISD Food Service, she devoted her time to her family. She could often be found at their shooting events, sports games, school grandparent days, and more. Pamela’s love, energy, and legacy left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J.R. and Johnnie Bell Waddell; her brothers, Joseph Waddell and David Waddell; her mother-in-law, Vanetta Patteson; and her daughter-in-law, Tracy Patteson.
Pamela is survived by her beloved husband, Ronnie Patteson; her son, Carl Patteson, Jr. (Laurie); her daughter, Theresa Mascola (Louis); her sisters, Nancy Frost and Judy Cisneros; her grandchildren, Demarise, Jake (Kyndal), Sarah (Payton), Josh, Daniel, Miranda, and Megan; her great-grandchildren, Ezra, Carter, Bowen, and Everett; Sebastian, Kashton, Sophia as well as many numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved as if they were her own.
