Natalia Mustang Cross Country junior runner Noah Gilkey is slated to run in Round Rock at the State Meet on Monday, November 23rd at 12:30pm. Mustang fans will remember Noah took a nasty tumble near the finish line at Regional in Corpus Christi before getting back to his feet to qualify for State.
At press time, it was still not a certainty that Noah would be cleared in order to compete. If able, Noah would be the first Mustang to compete since the 1987 season according to Head Coach Kim Lane.
Noah was sitting pretty in the third spot coming down the stretch on the track at Dugan Stadium. Lane stated that Noah blacked out and fell multiple times with about forty meters to go. Although he struggled to get back to his feet, he was able to finish in 15th place as the last individual to qualify.
A scary moment for all, especially for Noah, his family, and Lane.
Noah’s hope is to be medically cleared in time to compete.
As a team, the Mustangs finished seventh of sixteen teams that competed in Corpus Christi. Isaac Rios (32nd), Donavan Hawkins (65th), Coltin Richardson (73rd), Devin Chapa (94th), and Gavin Martinez (118th) closed out their successful 2020 season.
