Natalia softball in the middle of scrimmage action

The Natalia Lady Mustangs have been hard at work in the middle of their second week of practice and scrimmage action. The girls in blue, although early in the season, had battled three different teams in scrimmage action thus far with five teams yet remaining.
“I think our girls have played really well thus far,” Coach Tara Cortinas said. “We are still seeing a lot of things we need to cover, but I feel we are headed in the right direction.
Scrimmage play began last Saturday at home as Carrizo Springs came to town. This past Monday, February 3rd Natalia was in Frio County where they battled 4A Uvalde and Pearsall.
Natalia outscored all three of their opponents showing plenty of promise all around the field on both offense and defense.
“We are proud of our young girls for stepping up and fulfilling some big roles for the team,” Cortinas said. “These scrimmages have given us the feedback we need and we plan to learn from them and work them into our practices this week.”
Natalia will be back in action on the road Friday as the JV takes the field at 5:00 p.m. and the Varsity at 6:00 p.m. at Kerrville Tivy High School.
On Thursday, February 13th, Natalia returns home to host future district foe Poth at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Final scrimmage action is set for Saturday, February 15th when Natalia travels to Comal County to NB Canyon High School to battle the state ranked Lady Cougars, LaVernia and Incarnate Word.
The season opener for Natalia is Monday, February 17th at home vs. Orange Grove.
