The Natalia Mustangs evened their district mark in 26-3A action last Friday evening, as they picked up a lop-sided home victory versus the Cole Cougars. Natalia played an all-around impressive game, as they out-hit Cole 12-0 and had an error free day defensively.
With the above stated, an eleven run first inning led to the boys in blue picking up a huge 23-0 run rule victory over the Ft. Sam Houston squad.
Defensively, our players made the routine defensive plays and on the mound, Gabriel Figueroa and Jeramiah pitched a great game,” Coach Philip Martinez said. “It helps your defense when they are throwing lots of strikes. That’s the kind of pitching you need to stay in a game.”
Offensively on the night, the Mustangs were led by Nathan Vasquez who was hot going 4-4-6RBIs-3runs scored. In addition, Rey Garza, Gabe Figueroa and Manuel Saldana were also productive producing two hits each.
“We hit the ball very well and have to do that for the remainder of the district,” Martinez said.
After producing eleven 1st inning runs, the Stangs added six in the 2nd, one in the 3rd and five in the 4then route to a huge 23-0 shut-out victory over the Cougars.
Figueroa pitched 3.0 allowing 0 hits, walked 0 and struck out 5 in the game. Castro pitched 2.0, allowed 0 hits, walked 0 and struck out 4.

Upcoming Games
The Mustangs picked up a 1-0 defensive victory over Jourdanton on Monday night. A full story will be in next week’s paper. This win allows the boys in blue to stand tied with Jourdanton for 2nd place in 26-3A.
The Stangs will have the remainder of the week off as they prepare for a road game in Karnes City on Tuesday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. as the second round of 26-3A continues.
