Mildred Ruth Van Fleet Barton passed away on April 2, 2017 in Hondo at the age of 94 years. Mildred was born September 21, 1922 in Hondo. She was one of three children born to Clarence A. Van Fleet and Iva Ruth Chancey Van Fleet.
Mildred graduated from Hondo High School and upon her graduation, she attended San Antonio Business College. On April 10, 1943, she married James “Jim” Barton in Hondo. Mildred passed away eight days before they would have celebrated 74 years of marriage.
In addition to her parents, Clarence and Ruth, she was preceded in death by her son, James “Jimmy” Richard Barton; grandson, Dusty Norris and brother, Bobby Van Fleet.
Survivors include her husband, James “Jim” Louis Barton of Hondo; children, Betty Barton of Kingwood, TX, Kathy (Walt) Rothe of D’Hanis, Sheri (Lloyd) Norris of Hondo and Bill (Jan) Barton of Hondo; daughter-in-law, Elvie Barton of Hondo; grandchildren, Jamey Barton, Donnie (Cathy) Barton, Louis (Jennifer) Barton, Mandi (Matt) Hoffpauir, Chris (Sayda) Chambers, Kelly (Mike) McIntosh, Susan Van De Water, Aaron (Ashley) Cooper, Angie (Nic) Zavoico, Chancey (Travis) Garza, Shawna (Jason) Klahorst and Ryan Barton; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Brown of Midland, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Hondo, with a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm. Services will conclude at the church. Memorials may be made in Mildred’s memory to American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
