Melrose Helen Biediger Hester, of La Coste passed away July 26, 2024 at the age of 87. She was born August 24, 1936 in Castroville, Texas to Daniel Joseph Biediger and Irma Lima Haby Biediger.
Melrose graduated from St. Louis High School in 1954. On November 10, 1963, she married Robert “Bob” Dale Hester at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. They were blessed with almost forty-nine years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2012.
When Fr. Larry Steubben was the assigned priest at St. Louis Catholic Church, she worked as the church secretary under his direction. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Brown Chevrolet in Devine, and most recently she was a door greeter at the Castroville Wal-Mart. She greeted everyone with a smile and enjoyed visiting with her friends and making new ones. Melrose was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and would often volunteer in the office when needed. She was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society and the American Legion Post 460 Auxiliary when it was still active.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and LaNet Hester of La Coste; daughter, Donna Kay Hester of La Coste; grandchildren, Brendan Hester, Christina Hester, and Maranda Reed (Jacob); two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Julie Stewart.
Melrose was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Biediger and Irma Biediger Moak; stepfather, Alton Moak; husband, Bob Hester; brother, Col Larry Biediger; and sister, Margaret Haby Schott (Howard Haby and Richard Schott).
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Memorial Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the church. Inurnment will follow at a later date at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
