Medina Valley student loses life in FM 471 wreck

A 17-year-old Medina Valley student was killed in an accident on July 10 after attempting to pass two vehicles in a no-passing zone and colliding with a tractor trailer.

A Medina Valley High School student lost his life in a terrible accident last Monday, July 10 around 3:35 in the afternoon. He was traveling on FM 471 in the Rio Medina area when he attempted to pass two vehicles, DPS says.
According to DPS, “A 2004 Mazda RX8, driven by Joshua Isiah Salazar, 17, of San Antonio, was traveling north on FM 471 when he entered the southbound lane and attempted to pass two vehicles in a no passing zone. At the same time, a 2014 Peterbuilt truck tractor semi-trailer, driven by a Del Valle man, was traveling south on FM 471. The driver of the truck tractor was unable to avoid the collision and the Mazda struck the trailer portion of the vehicle. Mr. Salazar was transported to University Hospital where he died at 4:47 p.m. The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt. The investigation is ongoing and all contributing factors are not yet known.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety would like to remind all drivers to obey traffic control devices and the speed limit.
