Mary T. Urby, born July 31, 1936 to Jose M. Trevino and Paulita Trevino in Del Rio, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on February 4, 2018 at the age of 81. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe L. Urby, Sr.; sons: Joe L. Urby, Jr. and Stacey Waldron, and Jim R. Urby and wife Sandra Urby; Sisters: Eloisa Juares and Ofilia Reyes; Brother, Jose M. Trevino, Jr.; Grandchildren: Jim R. Urby, Jr., Annika Rutkoski and husband Michael Rutkoski, Dr. Justin Urby and wife Nicole Urby, Marlena Urby, Joe Ryan Urby, and John Matthew Urby; Great grandchildren: Kyleigh Dean, Kyndall Rutkoski, Maverick Rutkoski, and Axl Rutkoski; and a host of many friends.
Mary loved cooking for her family, watching football (remembering her high school cheerleader days), teaching her grandchildren to cook, crocheting, and her extensive travels throughout Mexico and its beautiful beaches, Europe while her son Jim was stationed there, and her many trips to Montana. She had a profound love for her family, both Urby’s and Trevino’s. She was very dedicated to the South Texas Market Place which was Joe and Mary’s business until her death. She enjoyed being with the loving people at the South Texas Market Place in Devine, Texas every weekend. Mary also loved working on her hay farm which she and Joe have had for 30 plus years. They loved taking their grandchildren at an early age to learn the value of working hard and how to become successful. Mary and Joe came from humble beginnings and through hard work and dedication succeeded in their lives together. This death is a true loss to many of us all.
Mary’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregivers: Birtha Maldonado for helping Joe and his sons with her 24/7 care, Vickie Urby Contreras and Maria and Martin Ramirez for caring for Mom and helping Dad when we were in such turmoil, Jessica Betancourt for her care, her Nurse Dave from Embrace Hospice, all of the cousins that called and checked on Mom and showed how much they cared, and to Toby and Donna Cargile for taking care of The South Texas Market Place during our time of need.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South followed by a Liturgy and Celebration of her Life at 11:00 AM, also at Mission Park. Honorary Pallbearers: Jim Urby, Jr., Joe Ryan Urby, Dr. Justin Urby, John Matthew Urby, Michael Maynes, Michael Rutkoski, Maverick Rutkoski and Martin Ramirez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to The American Cancer Society.
