Marshel Alfred Persyn

Marshel Alfred Persyn, of Castroville, passed away on July 8, 2018 at Blue Skies of Texas-West in San Antonio, following a respiratory illness. He was 94 years old.
Mr. Persyn was born February 10, 1924 in San Antonio to parents, Gustaaf and Aline Baeke Persyn. On September 20, 1949 he married Joy Mazelle Pue from Bandera. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage at the time of Joy’s passing in 2010.
After farming with his family in the “Belgian Gardens” area of San Antonio, he and his wife purchased a farm in Medina County in 1953. Here they built a home, farmed, and raised a family of three daughters. Marshel was fond of saying he was a member of “FFA” (Farmers Farm Alone), although all of his daughters would contest that! He was a member of the St. Louis Men’s Society and member of St. Louis Catholic Church for 63 years.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathy (James) Eaton, Rebecca (Brad) Haby and Marsha Lanham all of Castroville; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Charles) Brodell, Josh Haby, Lauren Haby, Samantha Haby and Nicole Lanham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustaaf and Aline Persyn; wife, Joy Persyn; brothers, George (Estelle “Precious”) (Lorine) Persyn; Aviel (Virginia) Persyn and sister, Margaret (Martin) Burell.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Haby, George Persyn, Eugene Persyn, Steve Persyn, John Persyn, Tom Persyn, and Josh Haby. Honorary pallbearers will be James Eaton, Pat Persyn and Larry H. Arnold.
Memorials may be made in Marshel’s memory to any of the organizations at St. Louis Catholic Church.
