Maria De La Luz Mendez Hernandez was called home to celebrate her 78th birthday in Heaven on February 3, 2020. She was born February 3, 1942 in San Antonio to Alfredo and Eugenia Mendez and passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side.
Maria married Andres Hernandez. Their marriage was blessed with many wonderful years together and included nine children, thirty grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Eugenia Mendez; her husband, Andres Hernandez; great-grandson, Ezra Hoover;son-in-law, Lionel Salinas; and siblings,Jesse Mendez and Angel Mendez.
Survivors include her children, Sylvia Sandoval of Lytle, Deborah Hernandez of San Antonio, Maria Salinas of Lytle, Andres Hernandez (JoAnn) of Lytle, Andrea Hernandez of San Antonio, Richard Hernandez (Priscilla) of Lytle, Michelle Hernandez of Lytle, Sherry Hernandez (Christian Alvarez) of Lytle and Martin Hernandez (Vanessa) of San Antonio; thirty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; siblings, Rodolfo Mendez, Antonio Mendez, Joe Mendez and Manuel Mendez; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2020 starting at 5:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on her wedding anniversary, Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.
