Lytle XC competes a little shorthanded in Bandera

The Lytle High School Cross Country teams traveled a little light to Bandera to compete in the Bulldog Invitational. Only able to field a varsity boys and a varsity girls team didn’t slow down the progress of those that got to run, however.
According to Head Coach Gilbert Ruiz, “The varsity girls were missing one and finished 5th out of 7. They had some great performances as both Marissa Lopez (5th) and Natalie Williams (15th) both medaled, and Jazmine Ortega, Yadhira Mendez, Naomy Montes, and Natalie Williams all set personal records. We hope that we can continue to improve going into district on the 26th.”
The Pirates needed help from its JV roster to fill a five-man varsity squad.
“The varsity boys had two varsity and three JV runners,” Ruiz stated. “We finished 3rd out of 6 teams. JC Hernandez (3rd), Robert Wagner (7th), Brandon Obando (15th) and Abel Sanchez (20th) medaled and were only seven points behind second place Bandera. We hope to have a full crew by district.”
