LTC Larry Otto Hitzfeld, (U.S. Army, retired) of Castroville, joined his beloved wife, Georganne, in Heaven on July4, 2018at the age of 79 years. Larry was born October 12, 1938 in San Antonio to Herman Charles Hitzfeld and Minna Dora Karger Hitzfeld. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and later attended college to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. He joined the U.S. Army in 1964, serving his country during the Vietnam War, and retired in 1985 as Lt. Colonel after serving twenty-one years.
Larry was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste and the Knights of Columbus. On August 26, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Georganne Terry, in San Antonio. Larry and Georganne were blessed with 57 years of marriage at the time of Georganne’s death on November 25, 2017.
Larry’s parents have also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Aaron Craig and Betty Hitzfeld of Spring, Anna and Chris King of La Coste, Kelli D. Zak of California, Shelli Dai Connor of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Herman (Margaret) Hitzfeld of Round Rock.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 10 starting at 6:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Wednesday, July 11 that 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery III with military honors.
