Local disaster declared in Medina County

County Judge Chris Schuchart signed an order on March 18 declaring a local disaster in Medina County due to the public health emergency associated with COVID-19.

The order is in effect for not more than seven days, though it can be continued or renewed by Commissioners Court.

Medina County confirmed its case of the coronavirus on March 17, which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

The disaster declaration authorizes the county to “take any actions necessary to promote health and suppress disease throughout Medina County, including quarantine, examining and regulating hospitals, regulating ingress and egress throughout Medina County and any impacted areas.”

The declaration bans all indoor public and private gatherings, as well as outdoor gatherings, of 50 or more people within an enclosed space anywhere in Medina County.
