The Lady Pirates Varsity and JV track teams had a great start to the weekend. Last Friday, the teams traveled to Pearsall and competed against Carrizo Springs, Crystal City, and Pearsall. Competing against their old district opponents, the Lady Pirates had a great turn out with 17 of the 8 athletes placing in the top 6 in different events. The Lady Pirates track is led by Coach Gilbert Ruiz. The Varsity will head to Poth later this week.
“We are small in numbers and young in experience as we have been in all our girls’ teams this year. Even though we only have 2 seniors and 1 junior on varsity, and they are all throwers, we have a very competitive group that loves track and are a joy to coach. When they come ready to work every day and want to improve, it makes my job so much more enjoyable! They definitely will be exciting to watch,” said Coach Ruiz.
