Lady Mustangs open season against Poteet and Hondo

The Varsity Lady Mustangs have begun their basketball season led by Coach Doug Lum. They scrimmaged Poteet on November 9th and then faced Hondo at home on Monday. Trailing 9-28 at the half, the Lady Mustangs struggled to find the basket but worked hard to keep up with the Owls. The second half was better for the Lady Mustangs as they held Hondo to just 19 points and scored 11 of their own for a 20-47 final score. Jelli Padilla led with 6 points and Mariah Joseph scored 4.
“We had a tough night shooting the ball. However, the kids played with lots of hustle and effort. I was very happy with that. I am excited about this years group and their potential. We have to learn to play together. It’s going to be fun watching this team grow.” Coach Lum
The Lady Mustangs with play in Pleasanton on November 15th, in Uvalde November 19th, in Ingram December 3rd, and then compete in the McMullen County Tournament December 5-7th. Their first home game will be against Leakey on December 10th. District starts January 14th against Harmony.
The JV Lady Mustangs will be coached my Coach Elvia Loza, the 8th girls by Coach Mark Felter, and the 7th girls by Coach Kimberly Lane.
