Lady Mustangs open district against Dilley, Jourdanton

Lady Mustang #15 Bryanna Perez puts up a set as #15 Mariah Joseph, #6 Angelica Padilla, and #9 Bailey Boucher approach the net.

District has started for the Lady Mustangs and is off to a rocky start. They dropped their first two games against Dilley (2-3) and Jourdanton (1-3). They played Cotulla last night and will face Laredo on October 1st and Lytle October 8th.
In the game against Dilley, the Lady Mustangs came out strong in the first set winning 25-19 but dropped the second set 17-25. Picking up the pace in the third set helped them win it 25-14 but faltered in the fourth and fifth losing both 10-25 and 13-15. Angelica Padilla had 17 kills and Trista Vera 15. Bailey Boucher 8 assists, 2 aces, 15 digs. Angelina Zapata 2 aces. Bryanna Perez 14 digs.
The Squaws fell to the Lady Mustangs in the first set 16-25 and then nearly lost the second set to them but pulled ahead last minute to win it 26-24. Natalia ran out of speed in the third set and lost it 17-25 and the fourth 8-25.
“Our girls came out ready to compete at the highest level tonight, taking Jourdanton by surprise. In the end, we didn’t take the win, but small victories outweigh the final result. Taking a set, spot-serving, and all out defense were just a few of our small victories that kept us in the game. We are proud of the fight!” said Coach Tara Cortinas.
