JV Warhorses stave off Lytle in 6-5 win

The JV Warhorses withstood a late challenge by Lytle in a 6-5 win over the JV Pirates last Tuesday, April 25.
Devine jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Leadoff batter Juan Seguin reached on an error and scored on Isaac Oropeza’s line drive single to center field. Oropeza scored on Tristin Cruz’s sacrifice fly to left field, and Gehrig Runyan singled before stealing home for a 3-0 lead.
Lytle cut the JV Warhorses’ lead in the top of the 4th inning, scoring a run thanks to a single, catcher’s interference, and consecutive errors.
Devine scored their final three runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Tristin Kramer hit a one-out triple and was replaced on the bases by pinch runner Jordan Degollado. Brady Harrell and Seguin hit back-to-back singles to load the bases, and Chad Lawson hit a sac fly to center to drive in Degollado and Harrell. Seguin then scored on Oropeza’s line drive to center.
The JV Pirates nearly completed a comeback in the top of the 5th inning. A leadoff walk, an error, and a single loaded the bases with no outs before another single drove in a run. A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases again with two outs, and two more runs scored on a single and a walk to cut Devine’s lead to 6-5 before the JV Warhorses got a strikeout to preserve the win.
Devine had eight hits, left four runners on base, and committed five errors. Lytle had four hits, drew four walks, left eight runners on base, and committed two errors.
