JV Warhorses squander six-run lead in loss to Bandera

The JV Warhorses took the lead in the 1st inning of their game last Tuesday, April 4, and held it all the way to the final inning of the game, when they gave up seven runs to Bandera to fall 7-6.
Devine took advantage of Bandera miscues to score four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Joey Seguin and Gehrig Runyan both reached on errors and Chad Lawson was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Brady Harrell drew a walk to force in Seguin for the first run of the game, and Joseph Guajardo’s two-out ground ball drew an error from the JV Bulldog catcher that allowed Lawson, Runyan, and Harrell to score for a 4-0 lead.
The JV Warhorses’ final runs came in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Runyan led off the inning with a walk, took second on a passed ball, and advanced to third on Truett Barron’s groundout before scoring on Leonard Pompa’s line drive single to right field. After Guajardo and Tristan Kramer reached safely on an error and a walk, Tristin Cruz singled to right to knock in Pompa and put Devine up 6-0.
Bandera’s anemic offense came to life in the top of the 5th inning, thanks in part to four walks issued by JV Warhorse pitching. The JV Bulldogs also had four singles to help their cause, scoring seven runs to seize a 7-6 lead heading into the final half-inning.
Things started well, with a Cruz single and a Pompa walk, but three consecutive outs stranded both runners and left the JV Warhorses on the losing end of the game.
Devine had five hits to Bandera’s seven, and drew four walks to the JV Bulldogs’ seven. Devine left six runners on base, while Bandera left seven. The JV Warhorses committed two errors to Bandera’s four.
