JV Mustangs romp past Cougars in season opener

JV Mustangs Manuel Garcia and Eric Sutton close in for a tackle.

The Natalia Junior Varsity Mustangs were impressive during their season opener last Thursday afternoon on the road at Ft. Sam Houston. The defense was stout pitching a shut-out on base, as the offensive production was wide spread and unstoppable.
“We played a great game in all phases,” Natalia JV Coach Jeff Terry said. “Offensively we weren’t perfect, but we played tough and physical.”
The Stangs may not have been perfect, but they still produced plenty to overwhelm the Cougars on their home field. Natalia’s Adrian Vasquez accounted for two offensive touchdowns, as Jacob Navarro accounted for one.
Defensively, two touchdowns came on fumble recoveries/runs courtesy of Gregorio Mendez and Rocky Cruz and one to an interception return by Vasquez.
“The kids were flying around making plays and having fun,” Terry said.
Natalia continues non-district play as they welcome the Randolph Ro-Hawks to town this coming Thursday at Mustang Stadium. Come out and support the boys in blue as the kick-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
