Devine’s JV was defeated by the Mavericks in Pearsall last Thursday by the final score of 45 to 22. With a slew of freshmen mixed in with the team’s upper classmen, the Warhorses simply could not match the manpower and strength the Mavericks have on its roster.
The Warhorses struck first on a 37-yard touchdown strike from Colin Dishman to Donavon Camacho with 6:05 left on the first quarter game clock to take a 6-0 lead. Camacho ran for the 2-pt conversion to boost the tally to 8.
Pearsall scored with 0:33 left in the opening frame to get back into the game. However, Camacho busted loose for another touchdown, this time from 37 yards to put the Horses back in front at 14-7 with 7:50 left in the second quarter. It was all Pearsall after that.
Devine’s last touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a Dishman to Joseph Guajardo 33-yard connection. Camacho ran in the 2-pt conversion to pull within 35-22 with 7:57 left in the ballgame. Pearsall dominated the rest of the way, scoring two touchdowns to seal its victory.
Devine is now 6-2-1 on the season. They host Crystal City on Thursday at Warhorse Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:30pm.
