JV Horses run off with two close ones

The JV Warhorses won two close games last week against Uvalde and Carrizo Springs. The JV Warhorses played well under the pressure of a tight game and are now 17-4 for the season. This Friday they will head to Somerset for their first district game.
Devine JV boys defeated Uvalde Tuesday night 39-37 in a hard-fought game. The first game back after the holidays was successful for the JV horses as they secured their 16th win of the season. It’s always tough coming back after the break, the kids have been off for a while and it’s usually the first day of school which is tiring as it is. I am proud of how the boys continued to fight. We started off slow trailing after the first quarter then took a four point lead into halftime. We extended the lead in the 3rd, and then struggled to score late, but played good enough defense to get the win,” reported Coach Gary Schmidt.
Jordon Roberts lead with 13 points, Jonathan Esquibel earned 8 points, Juan Billalobos had 7, Rylan Mata 5, and Jacob Antu had 4 points. Q1 5-7, Q2 20-16, Q3 31-26, Q4 39-37.
Friday night on the road, Devine took down Carrizo Springs. Winning by just one point, this hard-fought win came after being behind until tying the game up at 17-17 at the end of the third. Devine continued to play hard “before taking the lead with under a minute to going the game,” added Coach Schmidt.
Noah Macias scored 3 points, Roberts had 2, Esquibel 2, and Trinadad Hernandez scored 5. Leading the team with 6 points each was Rylan Mata and Jacob Antu. Q1 4-8, Q2 15-16, Q3 17-17, Q4 24-23.
The Warhorses will be back at home to take on Young Men’s Leadership Academy on January 21st.
