Judith “Judy” KayeKnox Patterson

Judith “Judy” Kaye Knox Patterson of San Antonio, formerly of Castroville, passed away March 19, 2024, at the age of 85. She was born on January 8, 1939, to Charles R. Knox and Harvie Irene Riley Knox in Hays, Kansas. She graduated from Hobbs High School (Hobbs, NM) in 1957 and proceeded to attend Sul Ross State University. It was there that she met the love of her life, John “Jay” Patterson, and the two were married on May 26, 1960.

Being newly married to a coach, they moved to Fabens, TX, where they welcomed their two children, Jay and Jan. With Jay coaching, Judy completed her degree in Elementary Education at Sul Ross in 1972 and began her career as a teacher which spanned over 30 years and several school districts across Texas. Most of her teaching was spent at Medina Valley ISD in Castroville, Texas, where her passion and caring for her students defined her career with lasting impact.
One of Judy’s core values was family. While Jay was coaching, Judy and the children were always close by spending time in the gym, on the field, or traveling countless miles to games behind the school bus. Judy was a great cook and supported the coaching staff weekly with hot meals while they worked long hours through the seasons, still finding time to scout future Panthers from the school playgrounds.
Upon retiring, Judy found happiness in reading, gardening and crafting, but joy came from her grandchildren. She attended numerous events in support of them throughout the years as their biggest fan, but the grandkids will tell you that their summers spent at Camp Gee and Papa were the best. Judy recently welcomed a great-granddaughter in 2023 and was eagerly anticipating a second great-granddaughter due this summer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charlie Knox. She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved husband, Jay Patterson of San Antonio, TX; children and spouses, Jay and Barbie Patterson of San Antonio, TX; Jan and Mark Glasser of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Zac Glasser (Victoria), Hannah Glasser, and Meaghan Patterson Reed (DJ); great-granddaughters, Vanessa Glasser and Parker Kaye Reed (expected this summer); sister, Jody Knox of Marietta, GA; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Jane Knox of Gilbert, AZ; honorary daughter, Sheri Carter of San Antonio, TX, and Judy’s beloved dog, Cozi.
Services will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorials in Judy’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
